Liz Laine

Policy Manager
Consumer Futures

Liz Lainé leads the demand reduction programme for the GB energy watchdog, Consumer Futures, covering heat and power use, from incentives and advice to protections and performance. She has over 10 years experience in campaigns, policy and research at the national and grassroots level with a particular focus on the built environment over the past 4 years, campaigning for improvements to the energy performance certificate and retrofit financing. She also has practical experience of assessing actual housing energy performance against design claims, using energy and temperature data together with, more importantly in her view, resident feedback.

Liz started her working life in the management consultancy division of PricewaterhouseCoopers, specialising in financial services, before a damascene conversion when studying for her MSc in Corporate Governance and Business Ethics at Birkbeck College. That conversion led her to volunteer on a range of campaigns in London, including the Old Home Superhome network. Liz is also a resident director of Hockerton Housing Project, an exemplar eco housing development in Nottinghamshire which aims to bring sustainability to life. This co-operative delivered a scheme under the Retrofit for the Future project that cut two homes’ carbon emissions by 80% with offsite renewables covering remaining emissions. She is also a director of Sustainable Hockerton, a community-owned wind turbine that raises funds for local sustainability projects.
