Carbon Minded

Craig Copeland is a Director at Carbon Minded, a carbon & energy consultancy with broad experience in helping organisations who wish not only to minimise their environmental impact, but to do so in a way that makes good business sense. Craig has 8 years’ experience in the low carbon industry, and a further 5 years’ experience in business and financial modelling. He began his career in urban regeneration in the Chief Executives Office of Gateshead Council and was a financial business modeller with BT Openreach.  He was contracted to Newcastle City Council to deliver its Carbon Management Programme and is a former associate of the Policy and Research Group at St Chad’s College, Durham University, where he worked on regional carbon modelling projects and advised local authorities and two RDAs on carbon accounting and modelling of emissions. Craig has knowledge of the full range of sustainable energy policies and has provided official responses to various Government consultations on climate change and has advised foreign Governments on UK environmental policy.

More recently Craig was also a Partner at Thurlestone Capital, where he advised on turn-key financing solutions for Renewable Energy Projects across all proven technologies in the commercial and domestic sectors. Projects included; the development of a £250m private equity financial solution for delivery of the Green Deal with a national provider of energy efficiency advice; a social housing energy-efficiency retrofit project for a local authority in the East Midlands, financed by private equity and CESP; a £25m social housing energy-efficiency retrofit project for a housing association in Liverpool; and a ¥12bn commercial roof-top solar project in Japan, as well as a £250m commercial solar fund within the UK. He has previously worked with an environmental fund based in the Middle East developing technical analysis for investment within the EU for Anaerobic Digestion, Solar and Biomass generation.     

Craig holds a Business degree from Newcastle Business School, a Law degree from Northumbria University and was called to the Bar of England and Wales with the Hon Society of the Middle Temple.
